Canted Angle Media seeks submissions for summer film festival

An independent arthouse cinema group is now accepting entries from local and regional filmmakers for its first festival in August.

Canted Angle Film Festival is at 6 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Lyric Theater in Harrison, Ark. Branson-based Canted Angle Media is sponsoring the event.

There’s no cost for participants to submit their short films. Films should be no longer than 20 minutes. The deadline is 11:59 p.m. Aug. 17. Please email your entries or questions to CAFFSubmission@gmail.com. Festival entries will be chosen by organizers. Chosen filmmakers will be notified.

The film festival is a chance for audiences to view harder-to-sell films, such as Avante-Garde, thriller, action, dark comedy, experimental, music videos, documentaries or mockumentaries.

“It means a lot to me, being a lover of film and not always having many options for local film festivals,” said CAM founder Jedidiah Nichols. “This area is a little under-cultivated in terms of production and festivals, and I hope to be part of a larger growth.”

The Lyric Theater has offered its space for the first-ever Canted Angle Film Festival. The Ozarks Arts Council, which owns the theater, continues its mission to foster a supportive environment for the arts.

“The Lyric Theater is a place that I grew up acting in, and this feels full circle, having performed on that stage and now showcasing films there,” Nichols said.

Ticket sales directly benefit the Lyric Theater, which is a nonprofit. Presale tickets are $5 for children and $7 for adults; at the door, $8 for children and $10 for adults. Concessions and adult beverages are available for purchase. Visit TheLyricHarrison.org for more.

Canted Angle Film Festival proudly accepts entries on FilmFreeway, the world's #1 way to enter film festivals and creative contests.
